It's been a great week! The girls started Block B at Homeschool Co-op. Hope is taking Becoming a Scientist, Sugar & Spice Cooking, and Curiosity Files Zombie Ants. Faith is taking Praise Dance Class, Sugar & Spice Cooking, and Drawing Sea Creatures.

The girls made A's on their Math & Science tests! It's a huge improvement for Faith, who failed her last math test last week. She did get an A after I had her do several worksheets then a re-make test. 

We decorated the school room with fall/Halloween decorations. It makes for a fun learning environment!

The girls Nanny bought them a subscription to Little Passports & their first package came today! They were very excited! They read all the intro, did all the activities & figured out that the next package will come with stuff about Mexico. They love the little suitcase & the passport. I love the geography! It came with these great huge maps & is going to be a great learning tool.

Next week is Halloween, so its going to be fun! The girls are going to dress up in their pioneer dresses & their sweet friend Izzi is going to come trick-or-treating with them. Then that weekend we are going to Pioneer Village Fall Open House in Searcy & we always love going to that!

Today was a fun fall day! We went to Peebles Pumpkin Patch in Augusta, AR. Nana got to go with us & we had a blast! Of course the girls made a beeline for the animals. We feed all the cute goats & Hope was in heaven with the baby pigs!

Then we tackled the corn maze! We actually discovered the trail out was marked with a small orange tie at each place to turn, so it was easy.

Next we hunted for the perfect pumpkins in the field. We found 2 that we loved!

After that we checked out the cotton patch and girls got a handful of cotton to take home.

The horse drawn carriage ride was next! Of course we all loved that!

Next was fun on the grounds sliding, and sticking our heads in all the fun cutouts!

The girls had fun at the rubber duck races & were helping the little kids more than anything! They just love little kids and have a big heart!

Took some great pics before we left. It was a great family day and we enjoyed time with Nana because we don't get to see her too often!

Thursday we had a blast! We had a fun impromptu field trip first going to the Historic Arkansas Museum and then to see the Nina & Pinta replica ships that were visiting Little Rock for a short time. Perfect for our Columbus Day lesson!

Here are some great photos from the Arkansas Historic Museum. Below is the first office of the Arkansas Democrat Gazette, Little Rock's first newspaper. The man lived & worked upstairs.

 

 

This is the first Inn in Little Rock. Wild times for travelers back then! The cage looking area is where the bartender kept all the liquor. There was nothing past this Inn except wild territory with black bears & native Indians!

This building is the kitchen. It had 2 rooms with a giant fireplace for cooking at each end and a outdoor fireplace for cooking as well. Outside was a garden with medicinal and herbs for cooking. It also had this cool murphy bed!

This huge magnolia tree was just beautiful!

 Inside the separate museum was very beautiful art gallery & these are some interesting pictures. They even had a fun children's art section with interactive pieces and a fun puppet area.

On the second floor was a great area with all about the Native American Indians  local to the area.

After we left the museum we rode the downtown trolley for the first time! It was very cool! We missed our stop, but walked back to where we needed to go to see the ships at the river.

We loved seeing these beautiful ships! The Nina & Pinta are the most accurate replicas in the world & they travel all over the US. It was very cool & a great way to bring our Columbus studies to life! They were much smaller than I imagined them to be. No wonder why the crew threatened to mutiny!

Last we visited the sculpture garden & the girls had fun playing in the misters. We walked a LONG way back to the car, but we had a great day!

The girls have declared History their very favorite subject, because we have really brought history alive for them this year! Love hearing them so excited about learning!
